CHICAGO’S HOLLYY PUT OUT “WONDERING WHY”

BY LAINA SUAREZ

An infectious mix of soul and blues, Chicago based band Hollyy releases their last single of the summer “Wondering Why;” and what a perfect tune to end the summer on.

When first listening to this song I was immediately hooked, there is something so carefree about how every component of the song is strung together, from the captivating vocals to the enticing melody, “Wondering Why” begs you to sing along.

Cheerful instrumentals aside, lead vocalist Tanner Bednar sings about wanting to get back a love that was once had. Reminiscing on how things ended, questioning how they got away, yearning for that love again but realizing it’s now gone: “Can’t get you back now / But I need you to know / Wondering why I let you go.” The song offers up this pure feeling of nostalgia — despite the lyrical themes ,there’s something youthful about it that I really enjoy.

Characterizing themselves as garage soul boys, Hollyy got their start back in the summer of 2018 making music in their basement studio. Comprised of five members, Tanner Bednar, Peter Giere, Rafael Soto, Brandon Couture and Domonic Zeier, they say they gather inspiration from artists such as Leon Bridges, Whitney, and Sam Cooke amongst others. Drawing heavy influence from the soul and blues scene enriched in Chicago’s historic music landscape, each member brings their own unique style that fully encompasses the intoxicating sound that is Hollyy.

I highly recommend you take time to check out Hollyy’s latest single and listen to their other releases, you won’t regret it!
