TRUE BLOSSOM RELEASES SINGLE “SERIOUS BOYS”

BY AMBRELYN RODRIGUEZ

On Friday, True Blossom blessed the world with “Serious Boys,” a single off of their upcoming album In Bliss. The Atlanta synth-pop band will be releasing the full album via Citrus City Records on October 23, so be on the lookout!

The first 45 seconds are dedicated to instrumentals, and the groovy, uplifting opening makes me want to dance and move my body. It’s giving me a similar energy to “Only in My Dreams” by 1980s icon! Debbie Gibson! However, the lyrics tell a different story than the song’s melody; True Blossom sings of a love that just didn’t work out, the opening lyric saying “Guess it all should go boy / And now you’re happy in love again / Didn’t think on it much / Better off friends.” The delivery of the lyrics is contrapuntal to the disco-pop sound of the song overall, making this track uniquely memorable.

One of my favorite things about this track is the combination of traditional instruments and disco-techno sounds. The collaboration of the synthesizer with wind instruments adds to a more eclectic sound, making it one of my favorite new releases. It’s dynamic, personal, and it pushes the barrier. If you’re looking for a new favorite pop song that’s inspired by disco-techno elements, go stream “Serious Boys” and mentally prepare for how awesome the full album will be.
